People who suffer from arthritis are always looking for ways to relieve their pain. One way to ease or even prevent it is through an arthritis diet. There are some arthritis diets that some people will swear by, but have never been proven to make a difference. There are some diets that make a definite difference according to health experts.

Eliminate

First we’ll take a look at some arthritis diets where there’s little or no evidence that they actually make a difference. One of the most common arthritis diets is to eliminate potatoes, tomatoes, eggplants, and most peppers. While the diet won’t do any harm, it hasn’t been proven to affect arthritis at all.

Reduce Acid

Another arthritis diet seeks to reduce the acids in one’s body eliminating sugar, coffee, red meat, most grains, nuts, and citrus fruits. It’s intended to be followed for just one month. People may feel better because they lose weight which reduces the stress on their joints, but again there is no evidence to support this. It also excludes many sources of vitamin C which is essential in fighting arthritis. Drinking green tea has been shown to reduce the effects of rheumatoid arthritis in mice, but there are no conclusive results on human studies yet. Shark cartilage is supposed to relieve arthritis. Animal and lab studies show promise, but there are no human studies to support this yet.

Diets That Work

Not let’s take a look at some arthritis diets that have been shown to work. Switching fats can reduce inflammation. Eating fats found in red meat and poultry have actually been shown to increase inflammation. Switching to cold water fish can help reduce the inflammation. Using corn, safflower, and sunflower oils also helps. Another arthritis diet is the ASU (avocado-soybean). It has been shown to relieve osteoarthritis, stimulate cartilage repair, and lessen a patient’s need to NSAIDs to control pain. Ginger has been shown to ease pain and inflammation as well as protect the stomach from gastrointestinal effects from taking NSAIDs. Glucosamine is a supplement that relieves pain in some patients with osteoarthritis. It helps the body rebuild cartilage, but can take up to two months to see the effects. If you are allergic to shellfish, check with your doctor before taking this as it is derived from crab, lobster, or shrimp shells. Before taking any supplements talk with your doctor as some can interfere with or worsen side effects from your medications.

Healthy Eating Is Still #1

Of course the best arthritis diet is a good old-fashioned well balanced diet. Eat 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables, and go easy on fats and cholesterol. A heart healthy diet is especially important to patients with rheumatoid arthritis as studies have shown a link between this disease and heart failure. Vitamin C is good for repairing body tissue. Vitamin D helps absorb calcium, build bone mass, and prevents bone loss. Calcium helps strengthen your bones. If you are on medication, ask your doctor if he/she recommends taking vitamins. Some medications can create vitamin or mineral deficiencies. When choosing your arthritis diet, be sure to talk with your physician as different types of arthritis have different needs.

Here are the two most common types of arthritis, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. The similarities and differences and what you can do to ease the pain.

Can Diet effect my arthritis

Doctors have known for a long time that diet affects gout, a specific type of arthritic condition, however Doctors are not ready to blame diet when it comes to other common types of arthritis such as rheumatoid and osteoarthritis., Here are the two most common types of arthritis, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis

Differences

The difference is in swelling. With rheumatoid, people report “soft and squishy” swelling. While with osteoarthritis, people report “hard and bony” swelling.

Another difference is that a person is more likely to develop rheumatoid if a sibling or parent had it.

While a person with a history of joint damage, either an injury or chronic strain, runs a higher risk for developing osteoarthritis. Although both have similar symptoms, both happen for different reasons. When joints are overused and misused, the results can be osteoarthritis. What happens is that the cushioning cartilage that protects the joint breaks down, resulting in the bones rubbing together.

Where is the pain?

This generally happens in the knees, but can be found in the hips, spine and hands often, too. And only in later stages will a person most often feel pain, after quite a bit of cartilage is lost. Although there are no cure-alls for osteoarthritis, overall dietary health is important, and being overweight can affect certain arthritic conditions, forcing some joints to carry more of a load. This added weight stresses the joints, causing overuse and pain, especially in the knees. So making sure arthritic sufferers eat god foods and get help from healthcare providers to create and follow a well-balanced dietary plan is advised. If you are overweight you can reduce the stress on your joints by loosing some weight.

This one could be genetic

The second type, rheumatoid, refers to the body’s immune system attacking joint tissue. Still not fully understood in the medical community, this condition most often starts in a person’s hands, wrists and feet. Then it advances to shoulders, elbows and hips. Similar symptoms include pain, stiffness, fatigue, weakness, slight fever and inflamed tissue lumps under the skin. And both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid generally affect the same joints on both the left and right sides of the body.

No age requirement

There is no specific age for arthritis sufferers. While it can affect every age group, losing weight can turn the odds around almost by half. Regular activity combined with exercise also reduces risk, strengthening joint muscles and reducing joint wear.

Don’t eat that;

As for foods to avoid when suffering with rheumatoid arthritis, many nutritionists and naturopaths suggest avoiding dairy products all together, as they seem to exacerbate rheumatoid arthritis flare-ups. Because of the risk in overdosing, one should be discouraged from taking doses of vitamins that are higher than recommended without a physician’s direction. Some vitamins and minerals can actually worsen certain conditions, and the concentration that can be attained through vitamins can be dangerous. It is much better to approach any desired increase in vitamin or mineral intake through food therapy.

Fish oil supplements have been shown to have some anti-inflammation properties and increasing the dietary fish intake and/or fish oil capsules (omega 3 capsules) can sometimes reduce inflammation of arthritis. With osteoarthritis there is also the concern with deterioration of cartilage; therefore those with osteoarthritis should avoid large doses of Vitamin-A, since there is some evidence that it contributes to cartilage deterioration.

About arthritis, its types, symptoms, how debilitating it can get,

and how to relieve simple arthritic pain.

Arthritis is one of the most debilitating conditions affecting

mostly people over the age of 55. It doesn’t only affect that

specific age group, but also a percentage of young adults. It’s not

just a simple disease but a group of conditions that may cause

damage not only to your bones but also to other organs in the body.

Different forms of arthritis manifest different symptoms. Common

symptoms of arthritis include: persistent joint pain; tenderness in

a joint which is aggravated by movement; inflammation indicated by

joint swelling, stiffness, redness, and/or warmth; pain and

stiffness in the body, especially around the joints; joint

deformity; loss of range of motion or flexibility in a joint;

unexplained weight loss; non-specific fever; and crepitus (weird

crackling sound in the joints.)

There are over 100 different types of arthritis affect approximately

46 million Americans today. The three most common types are:

osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout.

Osteoarthritis is more commonly called as degenerative arthritis.

This develops from a simple breakdown to an eventual loss of

cartilages of one or joints. Cartilages are protein-based mass that

serve as cushions in between joints. This type of arthritis usually

attacks weight-bearing joints such as the hands, feet, and spine.

It is mostly related to aging and it progresses further as the years

pass. It usually occurs at the age range of 45-60. Men are at

higher risk for osteoarthritis before age 45. Women, however, are

more prone to it around age 55 specifically around the hand, foot

and knee joints. Severe cases of degenerative arthritis require

total joint replacement, mostly of the hip and knee joints.

Rheumatoid arthritis may also affect different joints, and as

previously mentioned, it may affect some body organs and even our

blood. It mainly affects the synovial lining of the joint. The

synovium is a soft tissue that lines the non-cartilaginous surfaces

within joints. This issue comes as a secondary effect of

infections. In this case, the body’s autoimmune system malfunctions

and attacks healthy joint tissue, causing inflammation and joint

damage. Although it is not as degenerative as osteoarthritis, it

may cause joint deformity in a mild level.

Gout is caused by displacement of uric acid crystal to the joints.

Also known as hyperuricemia, which literally translates high uric

acid content in the blood, it is a metabolic ailment wherein uric

acid builds up in the blood and crystallize in the joints of other

parts of the body. Chronic gout attacks may lead to hard lumps of

uric acid deposits around the joints, and in the process decrease

kidney functions and form kidney stones.

There are different kinds of treatment for the different forms of

arthritis. There are medications available that aid in arthritis

pain relief. Antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are

used as relieve pain and decrease inflammation on affected areas.

It has to be paired with constant visits to a physical or

occupational therapist to ensure that mobility and range of motion

is maintained.

Arthritis isn’t just a simple joint pain that we can disregard. The

pain alone is difficult to ignore, let alone the complications it

will bring if it remains untreated. Nobody is safe from getting

arthritis as there are forms that have causes yet to be defined.

Bottom line is, take care of your body – be mindful of your diet and

exercise constantly. You’ll never know when this sneaky disease

will catch up with you.

The many benifits of vitamin E, and why you should be including vitamin E in your diet and vitamin program.

We all know that oxygen is a primary component that is needed for life. This very same oxygen, once inside of the body, becomes very reactive through certain molecules and will start to cause damage through the free radicals, which is known as oxidative stress. As an antioxidant, vitamin E will help to prevent this type of stress, which will prevent the cells from aging or sustaining any type of permanent damage as well.

Cholesterol, which is a fatty substance found in many foods, is absorbed by the body then transferred from the liver to be stored by tissue as fat. This is carried through the bloodstream by molecules known as LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins). When the LDL is oxidized, it reacts to the cholesterol and a fat substance known as plaque begins to get deposited on the artery walls, which causes the blood flow to stop.

Vitamin E will stop cholesterol from forming into plaque, which will allow the blood to flow properly. If you don’t use vitamin E, in this situation, the blood will stop flowing and the arteries will begin to get backed up. As most of us know, this is the main cause of heart attacks, high blood pressure, and other serious diseases.

Even though many researchers and doctors have linked vitamin E to preventing cancer, this hasn’t been conclusively proven. There are many doctors that have said in the past that vitamin E can indeed prevent cancer, although no documentation or proof has been given to back up such statements. We all know that it is a very important vitamin, regardless.

There are studies however, that have proven vitamin E to be very effective in protecting the skin against UV rays. Vitamin E has been shown on numerous occasions to shield the skin from the harmful rays of the sun, which as we all know, can lead to skin cancer. If you include sources of vitamin E, or supplements in your diet you can help to prevent the damage of UV rays to your skin.

Along with these types of benefits, vitamin E can also protect against alzheimer’s disease and inflammation of the pancreas. This vitamin can also be very beneficial with reducing scars, and healing many types of burns and wounds. Included in your diet, vitamin E can help your skin to heal from many discrepancies over time.

When included with vitamin C, vitamin E can be one of the most important vitamins for your body. It offers many different benefits, besides the ones listed above. You can find it in many different forms, including fruits and nuts. Fruits are excellent sources of vitamin E, especially oranges. Oranges have always been known to be rich in this vitamin, whether you are consuming whole oranges or just drinking orange juice. If you are drinking orange juice that contains pulp, you’ll be getting plenty of vitamin E in your diet.

All things aside, you should always make sure that you include vitamin E in your diet. Along with fruits and nuts, you can also find this vitamin plentiful in vegetables as well. You can include it into your diet, or take supplements that provide it. You should be getting around 1,000 mg of vitamin E a day, which isn’t hard to do if you eat the right foods. If you consume the right amount of vitamin E in your diet, you’ll notice that your body will perform much better – and you’ll be well protected against numerous diseases as well.

Everyone knows that the human body needs a certain amount of vitamins and minerals everyday to function properly and remain healthy. A well balanced diet can supply your body with the vitamins it needs, although problems and disorders can arise if your diet doesn’t supply your body with the vitamins it needs. The symptoms of vitamin deficiency will normally present themselves when the lack of vitamins is at an advanced level.

Those who don’t get enough of vitamins A, B1, and B2 for example, will always feel tired, along with a loss of appetite. Other symptoms include mental and emotional stress, chapped lips, and other annoying or painful habits.

The most common causes of deficiency include a poor diet, alcoholism, stress, a lack of vitamins, or medicine that interferes with your ingestion of vitamins. If you are always feeling tired or feeling a lack of energy, you are probably short on the vitamins that your body needs to have on a daily basis. If you visit your doctor and tell him the problem, he will probably recommend vitamins and supplements that will give you want you need. Whatever you do, you should never overdo it and try to catch up on what you’ve been missing – as this will do you more harm than good.

Even though you may be following a healthy diet, you’ll still need to take vitamins and supplements. No matter how healthy you eat, you should still use the right vitamins and supplements to give your body what it needs. Vitamins are a great back up source, as they will provide your body with the minerals and nutrients it needs in the event of your diet failing you.

Before or after every meal that you consume, you should take vitamins or supplements. If you have a deficiency in a certain vitamin or vitamins, you should make sure that you never miss taking the vitamin you need. Even though you may not realize it, being deficient in a vitamin can greatly damper your performance as well as the overall health of your body.

When you look for supplements, you should always look for those that contain vitamins B6, B12, D, E, and folic acid. Along with being considered dietary supplements, these well known vitamins will help to fight cancer and help your heart remain healthy. The combination of these vitamins will help your body to remain healthy, boost your immune system, and keep you feeling refreshed.

To remain healthy and keep your body operating as it should, you’ll need to invest in vitamins and supplements. You can find them online or at local nutrition stores, many of which won’t cost you much money at all. No matter what your age may be, you’ll need to ensure that you are eating the right foods and taking the right foods. Keep in mind that you should never replace food with vitamins, as they are more less meant to give you additional nutrients and minerals.

Anytime you aren’t able to eat the right food, you should always turn to vitamin supplements to give your body what it needs. Supplements and vitamins are one of the best investments you can make, as everyone needs vitamins in their body. Even though the costs may add up over time, it is more than worth it when you think about. For what you spend in vitamins and supplements, you’ll be keeping your body healthy – and preventing a deficiency in vitamins. Although vitamin deficiency is very common these days, it doesn’t have to be.
There is a state of the art copany nammed genewize that has been costume making vitamins based on your DNA.
iF YOU HAVE A FAMILY GENETIC PREDISPOSITION TO A DISEASE WHY NOT SEE IF IT IS IN YOUR DNA. iF IT IS YOU MAY BE ABLE TO TAKE SUPPLEMENTS TO AVOID AN ILLNESS.

The benefits of vitamin C and the foods that contain it.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins for your body. It prevents a lot of diseases, and increases your body’s immune system. You can take this vitamin with or without any food, as it can be found in supplement form or in many different juices. Along with being found in supplement and vitamin form, you can find vitamin C in broccoli, peppers, oranges, lemon juice, mustard greens, cauliflower, papaya, and parsley.

Research in the past has shown that there really aren’t any advantages to taking excessive amounts of this vitamin. Even though you shouldn’t take excessive amounts of vitamin C, you shouldn’t have a deficiency in the vitamin either. The most common signs of a deficiency in vitamin C include swollen gums, an unexplained weakness, and nosebleeds. Deficiency is common these days, with the most common reasons being alcoholism and a poor diet.

Tendons and ligaments throughout your body need vitamin C in order to remain healthy and strong. Depending on your current health situation, it may be in your best interest to take vitamin C supplements along with vitamin E. Together, the combination of the two will work side by side, and enhance their overall impact on your body and your health.

Vitamin C is well known as an antioxidant, protecting your skin from the harmful damage of UV rays. If you skin suffers from radiation damage, vitamin C can actually help your skin to recover and reverse some of the harmful effects. If you include vitamin C in your diet and take it every day, you’ll notice that your skin will benefit. If you use vitamin E and C together, you’ll notice that scars and other harmful defects on your skin will start to heal as well.

You can find vitamin C in many fruits and vegetables, although oranges will give you the most amounts. Orange juice is a great way to get your daily dose of vitamin C, as all you need to do is drink a few glasses of it a day. Even if you drink a glass of orange juice in the morning with your breakfast then eat a few oranges during the day, you’ll get more than enough vitamin C.

If you want to get more vitamin C in your diet, you can use vitamin supplements. When you look for supplements at the store, you should read the labels and see how much vitamin C is in the supplement, and how it works. You should avoid time released supplements of vitamin C, as they haven’t been proven to work as well yet. As long as you monitor your intake of vitamin C and use it on a daily basis, you’ll find that your health and immune system will be better than ever.

Healthy eating is a way of balancing the food you

eat to keep your body in great health. With healthy

eating, you’ll have energy all day, get the vitamins

and minerals you need, stay strong for activities

you enjoy, and maintain a healthy weight.

Below, you’ll find tips designed to help you with

healthy eating.

1. Don’t skip any meals

Eating 3 meals with snacks in between is the ideal

way to maintain both energy and a healthy weight.

When you skip meals and get hungry, you’re more

than likely to choose foods that aren’t very good

for you.

If you are eating away from home, take food with

you or know where you can buy healthy food from.

2. Learn about how to prepare foods

Instead of deep frying, try grilling, stir frying,

microwaving, baking, and even boiling. You should

also try fresh or even dried herbs and spices to

add flavor to your food. Before you eat any type

of meat, be sure to trim the fat and skin off of

it.

3. Avoid a lot of sugar

Drinks that contain sugar are a major source of

empty energy. What this means, is that the drinks

contain a lot of energy that your body may not

need, and it doesn’t contain any vitamins or

minerals. If you plan to drink sugary drinks,

don’t go overboard – limit yourself to 1 a day.

4. Avoid thinking about diets

There are no good food nor any bad foods. All

food can be a part of a healthy diet, when eaten

in moderation. You don’t need to buy any low

carb, fat free, or even diet foods, as these foods

normally have lots of other added ingredients

to replaces the carbohydrates or fat.

Nine Facts About Fiber

If you’ve been looking for a way towards a high
octane diet, you’ll find fiber to be exactly what
you need. Even though research has shown fiber to
be powerful, many people aren’t taking this nutrient
seriously.

To help you fuel your health with fiber, here are
10 facts to help.

1. Fiber fights diseases. A diet high in fiber can
help to prevent colon cancer and heart disease. High
fiber helps the body to eliminate cholesterol by
binding it in the digestive tract. For thousands of
years, fiber has been used to stop constipation.

2. Fiber can actually help with overeating. All high
fiber foods will take longer to chew and digest,
making you feel satisfied longer

3. Most popular foods don’t have enough fiber. If
you like the more popular foods, you probably need
to increase your intake of fiber.

4. Grains offer the most fiber. Dietary fiber is
actually plant matter that we cannot digest. The best
sources are whole grains and concentrated grain
products.

5. Kids need fiber as well. Children that are older
than 2 years of age should consume a daily intake of
fiber. Kids are most receptive to fiber found in
fruits, vegetables, and even fortified breakfast
cereals.

6. More fiber needs more water. In order to keep
fiber moving through your digestive tract, you’ll
need to consume a lot of water. With your diet of
fiber, you’ll need eight or more glasses of water
every day.

7. Fiber cannot be cooked out. When you cook
your fruits and vegetables, don’t worry about cooking
the fiber out, as it stays. The fiber found in
fruits and vegetables aren’t just in the skin or
in the peel.

8. You can get enough fiber. If you eat more than
50 grams of fiber in a day, you can get diarrhea
and bloating, which can interfere with your body’s
absorption of other key minerals.

9. Getting the right amount of fiber in your diet
doesn’t have to be hard. Even though you may think
so, getting the amount of fiber you need isn’t very
hard to do. All you have to do is eat the right
foods and you’ll be well on your way to a fiber
rich lifestyle.

As one of the key ingredients to healthy eating,
fiber is something you don’t want to skip. Fiber can
serve many different purposes, which were covered
above. If you aren’t getting enough fiber in your
diet – you should do something about now instead
of waiting until it is too late.

Healthy eating and nutrition for the elderly is
greatly impacted by several factors, one of them
being a change in body composition. During the
later years in life, the body will lose bone and
muscle and gain fat because the hormones aren’t
very active anymore.

There are many factors which hinder an elderly
person’s health. The information below will help
you to lead a healthy life – no matter how old you
may be.

Water
Water in the body decreases with age, so many older
folks will become dehydrated very easily. Sometimes
they won’t feel thirsty, while other times it’s
too much work to pour a glass a water. With this
in mind, it’s recommended that they drink at least
1 ounce of water for every 2.2 pounds of weight.

Protein
At this stage in life, protein is very important.
Protein is needed to support a healthy immune
system and prevent the wasting of muscle. Since
energy needs are less, older folks should eat high
quality protein such as eggs, lean meats, poulty,
and fish.

Carbs and fiber
Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for
the entire body. You can find carbs in bread,
cereals, pasta, and other grain products. A diet
that’s high in fiber and water will help to
prevent constipation as well.

Fat
Fat intake for the elderly should be limited, not
eliminated. You can limit fat by choosing lean meats,
low fat dairy products, and food preperation
methods that don’t include frying.

Iron
For the elderly, iron deficiency can be seen with
those who aren’t eating much. Good sources for
iron include lean red meats or breakfast cereals.

Zinc
Zinc intake is normally with the elderly, and to
make matters worse, it’s not absorbed very well
either. Meat, poultry, and fish should be a part
of your diet to help you meet the requirements for
zinc.

Calcium
Calcium is one ingredient that most elderly folks
simply aren’t getting enough of. Most believe
that milk upsets their stomach, and therefore they
will avoid it. They should be getting around 1,500
mg of calcium a day, and nonfat powdered milk can
be used in recipes as a substitute for milk. Other
foods such as yogurt, low fat cheese, and broccoli
can also help you meet the requirements for calcium.

Vitamin B12
In order to absorb the benefits of B12, the intrinsic
facotr must be produced by the stomach. Most elderly
people suffer from a deficiency in B12 because they
have a condition known as atrophic gastritis. This
condition causes inflammation of the stomach,
bacterial overgrowth, and the intrinsic factor.
Without the intrinsic factor, this vitamin can be
absorbed.

Each one of the above nutrients are needed to keep
an aged body in good health. Elderly individuals
should try to stay active and strive for a well
balanced diet. Even though the aged body isn’t the
same as it used to be, proper care and the right
nutrients can help the elderly enjoy a healthy and
long life.
